IB Symposiun Dallas-2011
Introduction
Gateway to India – Orissa: Business Symposium was cohosted with the 42nd Annual Convention of Orissa Society of Americas (OSA) at the Dallas/Plano Marriott Hotel, Texas on Friday, July 1, 2011 from 8:30am to 5:00pm.
The Symposium provided a platform for initiating business collaborations & partnerships and new investment opportunities for US and Indian businesses.
India with a growing economy has transformed into a land of opportunities in several thrust areas for the past two decades. The next wave of economic growth in India will come from the socalled second tier Cities. This is because big cities like Mumbai, Calcutta, New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore etc known to the outside world have taken the first wave of investments and achieved phenomenal growth so much so that there is a need to divert the concentration of growth to smaller cities for a perfect balance of growth, opportunities and an easy access to the basic infrastructure. Their opportunities are understood and in a relatively advanced stage of development. Beyond the 'big cities' lies a far bigger opportunity.
Inside India, the state of Orissa is very well positioned for these newer challenging opportunities in the areas of Tourism, IT, Higher Education and Infrastructure and. The strong services industry accounts over 50% of India’s GDP, with significant contribution from the Information Technology industries. Orissa is home to several excellence centers for IT giants, like Infosys Technologies, TCS, MahindraSatyam, and other small & medium enterprises.
The capital city, Bhubaneswar is considered the rising star of India with several premier educational establishments including IIT, NISER, IIIT, AIIMS, KIIT & Utkal University catering to the high demand of these IT giants locally and globally.

Speaker
Congressman Jim McDermott(Chief Keynote speaker at the Convention and Business Symposium)
As the Honorary Chair of WASITRAC and CoLeader of it's mission to India, I found it was a great opportunity to strengthen the ties between Washington State and the State of Orissa in India. The Orissa Business Symposium will not only highlight business opportunities with one of our country's most important trading partners, but will open doors for U.S. businesses looking to expand their services or products beyond our borders. In an age of economic globalization, it only makes sense that the U.S. explore new opportunities and build relationships around the world
